7th Graders Walk/Read to Raise Disaster Donation |
| |
   |
|
|
On Friday,
May 27, 2011, the seventh graders of Danville Area Middle
School raised $357.38 to send to National Headquarters of
the American Red Cross for Japan Relief. After the March 11,
2011 Earthquake and Tsunami that hit Japan the students
expressed an interest to help those affected. The eight
Seventh Grade leaders came up with a plan to hold a
Read/Walkathon to raise funds. The students read for a half
hour and walked for a half hour several times the afternoon
of the 27th to show their support and their
willingness to think globally. Deanna Hollenbach and Holly
Laubach of the Danville Chapter spoke to the group the week
before the event thanking them for their efforts and
educating them about the American Red Cross and how they too
can be a valuable volunteer. Hollenbach was on hand the day
of the event to announce the amount the students raised and
to thank them again for their efforts. Special thanks to
Shelby Seibert, teacher, for handling the details of the
event! |

Villager Realty
Sponsors Blood Drive |

Center,
Bonnie Trump and the realtors of Villager Realty, worked
with the Danville Chapter of the American Red Cross to
organize and sponsor a blood drive to raise the awareness of
the need for blood and to get much needed donors to support
the supply and demand for blood products in our area. The
day was a huge success with 18 first-time donors making an
appearance at the drive, with total donations of 34
productive units collected that day – meaning that the
effort of Villager staff and associates saved 102 lives
through blood donation in a six-hour period of time. A great
big thank you to Villager Realty for their exceptional work
in sponsoring the drive and to the Danville Community for
responding by signing up for appointments for donation! |

Recently the Danville Chapter of the American Red Cross
spoke to the Danville Rotary Club in honor of Red Cross
Month about what the American Red Cross does for the
community and how it continues to serve those in need
and to prepare people for disaster. This presentation is
an example of how Rotary educates its club members about
its local community at their meetings every Tuesday
evening. Pictured: Holly Laubach, Disaster Services;
